About Us

Asgard Koons began in 2014. We were located in Grand Prairie Texas and have since moved to Fort Worth Texas. We started with just a few amazing and healthy cats and have grown. It was not always an easy journey but it’s one I would not change for anything.

Our cats are in our home at all times. The mommas have a special nursery just for them and the babies as they grow and learn how to climb and be cats. Once they reach nine weeks, they are introduced to my dogs. I have a cane corso and boxer that are both amazing for the kittens and cats alike. Adult cats rule my home and are only separated when heat cycles come up.

Health is my main focus as a breeder. I do genetic testing for all the cats coming into my home or the kittens I decide to keep. At a minimum they are tested for PKD, PKDef, HCM, and SMA but I typically like to do a large array of tests to just cross off all possible issues. All adults also get echocardiograms before they are allowed to breed. We are just starting to get all the adults hips checked via x-ray as well to rule out any possible hip issues.

I breed both American and European lines. Mixing the lines brings better kittens. They do not grow to be the 30 pounds that people think they want. Maine Coons do not get to 30 pounds if they are healthy. My cats get between 12 and 22 pounds on average with females being smaller.

We specialize in polydactyl feet as well. Polydactyl just means extra toes. It can come in two different formations, mittens and paddy. Mittens just means it looks like a mitten with 4 toes in a nice row and then extra toes on the side where the thumb is. Paddy feet are all the toes the same length in a nice arch.

Asgard Koons is CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) registered since 2014. We have not shown any as of yet but are considering it in the future. We just registered with TICA (The International Cat Association) and will be getting all the cats officially registered in the coming months. That means kittens will be dual registered.
